Serving Essex County's Newark, NJ, historically considered one of the most culturally and socio-economically diverse and most populous urban centers in the state. The priority issues of concern about older adults concerning African American and Hispanic Seniors that do not have access to the services of a social worker to meet their needs in their homes. BGC will now have the ability to deliver domicile services through the use of a van donated by Healthcare Foundation.

Historically considered one of the most culturally and socio-economically diverse and most populous urban centers in the state, older adults (African American and Hispanic Seniors) that do not have access to a social worker, residing in their own homes without peer to peer interaction, isolated from families, no access to social workers, technology or food are most at risk.

One of the most negatively impactful issues Seniors experience is Isolation. Seniors residing in their own homes without peer to peer interaction, isolated from families, no access to social workers, technology or food are most at risk.

The overarching goal of the project is to Improve community members’ health through increased consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables at senior homes providing food, resources and technological assistance and training to combat isolation from COVID-19 pandemic effects.

We improve community members’ health through Telehealth Training with Geriatric Mental Health providers, Nutrition and healthy meals to break stereotypes in meal prep with increased consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables - teaching new social norms. We will increase our food service number of seniors ages 55+ per week at their homes providing food, resources and technological assistance and Mental Health training to combat isolation from COVID-19 pandemic effects.
